If you live in southern Sonoma County, you live in the Third Senate District, represented by Democrat Mark Leno of San Francisco. In a region in which Democrats are dominant, the Third District is among the most Democratic of all. A new study on the potential impacts of Proposition 14 notes that 56 percent of the voters in this district are registered Democrats, and 25 percent are declined-to-state voters.

Republicans? Only 15 percent of Third District voters signed up for the GOP.

If Proposition 14 passes, this is one of those districts in which the November run-offs in legislative and congressional races would likely involve two Democrats – not a Democrat and a Republican with no chance of winning.

My column on the local impacts of Proposition 14 is available here.
