My error. The Atlantic magazine commentary was written by Nicholas Carr, author of the "The Big Switch: Rewiring the World, From Edison to Google," and not media critic David Carr.

STUPID. It's Nicholas Carr, not David Carr. And he's a free-lance writer, not associated with NYTIMES.

Hi Pete,

I'm in my late 50's & find myself going through a similar dillema. I'm old school enough to appreciate the memories of a slower paced life, Its like a catch-22 situation between New Tech (which changes every 15mins) & Old School (i love to read but can't remember when was the last time i have sat down to read a favorite book),
I opt for New Tech. We live in a society based on instant gratification and all the internet tools you mentioned is the reality of the world we live in now.
I also come from an upbringing that taught me moderation. So as much as i love instant high tech gadgets n toys i also love staying in tune with nature and mother earth. Great Article, love your intellect and style of writing. Keep up the insightful insights. Aho!
