What a marvelous piece of political stagecraft. Hillary Clinton strides on to the floor, takes the microphone and moves that the convention declare by acclamation that Barack Obama shall be the Democratic nominee.

It’s called history. After all the heartbreaks associated with racial discrimination, a major party just nominated an African-American for president. Obama may or may not win the presidency, but this becomes a moment we will never forget.

I keep thinking about what the rest of the world thinks of all this. Our country hasn’t made many friends in recent years. Now the rest of the world must consider what this moment says about the ways that America is changing.
